July 8, 2009 - Avnet Earns Best-In-Class Ranking from Engineers

PHOENIX -- The results of the fifth annual U.S. Design Engineer and Supplier Interface study by the Hearst Electronics Group and Channel Media & Marketing Research are in, and Avnet Electronics Marketing, an operating group of Avnet, Inc. (NYSE: AVT), has earned a best-in-class ranking in five key areas for 2008.

The Hearst Electronics Group's annual Design Engineer and Supplier Interface Study provides insight into the needs and perceptions of electronics engineers on industry products, services and supplier interaction. More than 1,000 electronics industry engineers participated in the study, and rated Avnet highest among its peers in five key areas, including "Well Informed Sales Representatives" - for the fourth consecutive year - and "Knowledgeable Application Engineers" - for the third consecutive year.

Avnet also received a best-in-class rating for the second consecutive year for Online Seminars, Technical Education and Training; and Providing Design and Engineering Services. The study examined engineers' perceptions of distribution in 17 product and service areas.

"The Supplier Interface Study provides us with details about the perceptions of engineers and what is truly important to them, thus reaffirming Avnet's commitment to delivering world-class design chain services," said Ed Smith, president of Avnet Electronics Marketing Americas. "We are honored to have our efforts recognized and acknowledged by our customers, and will strive to continue serving their needs to the best of our ability well into the future."

"We do this study to keep tabs on how engineers' needs for services change over time, and which suppliers are reacting properly to be perceived as the leaders in providing support. With workloads increasing, designers needs to get answers fast and easy, and will simply go to those who they perceive to be the leaders in providing all the support they need. Avnet did well across the board again in this latest study -- but it important to note that the company has shown steady improvement over the last four studies, indicating Avnet has stayed disciplined in consistently providing what engineers want and use over an extended period of time," said Vice President Publishing Director, Hearst Business Media Bill Barron.
